 1. Psychological process

Motivation is psychological process which concerns with satisfying requirements. Requirements, motives and drives are leading power to motivate personal. For positively guided, intense and positive motivation, personal must be convinced mentally.

 2. Complex and unpredictable

Motivation is a complex process as different persons may have different requirements to satisfy. It is one of the complex task because managers have to understand their requirements personally. It is very strenuous to understand the level of motivation as persons may not display the real motivation in their actions. Managers can predict the influence of motivational techniques in the employees very hardly. Thus, it is complex and unpredictable process.

 3. Continuous process

The employee cannot be motivated continuously for the long period of time with same attempt so motivation should be continuous. As the cause of motivation is the unsatisfied individual requirements. If these requirements will be fulfilled, managers must be able to create a new and higher level of requirements in them. Same technique is effective forever, so managers need to seek the new techniques for motivation. Thus, motivation is continuous and never ending process.

 4. Whole individual

Motivation should be concerned with all parts of the human body. This means individuals should be motivated physically as well as psychologically. Only one part of motivated body cannot be effective for better performance.

 5. Goal oriented

Motivation is concerned with goal oriented process. Every motivational activities and endeavour caused by motivation are focused in order to achieve goals. Such goals can be individual, group and organizational.

 6. Behaviour oriented

Main motive of the motivation is to change the behaviour of the individual. Motivation targets to energize and activate the passive efforts and will stamina of employees. Motivational techniques convince employees that their not satisfied requirements can be fulfilled if they change their passive behaviour to active and unfavorable behaviour to favorable.

 7. Pervasiveness

Motivation is pervasive function as it is important to each persons working at any level of responsibilities. This is equally important to the workers working in any kinds of organization.

 8. External influence

External factors can influence motivation very easily. Environment can be favorable or not to the person to get the personal goals. Environment gives the chances to the employees. It can further be influenced by competence of person, self-confident, kinds of motivational techniques, expected rewards of motivation, etc.

 9. Different classification

Motivation can be classified or defined in various ways. It can be classified as external or internal on the bases of source of motivation as self-induced or externally created. It can be classified as affirmative or negative motivation on the bases whether reward is used to motivate or punishment. It can also classified into financial nor non-financial motivation on the bases of motivational source whether it is monetary or non-monetary.
