Selection is the process of choosing the best qualified and  suitable applicants from the group of applications. It goes through different steps where each step serve as hurdle. However, organization has different process for selecting candidate some common selection process contains following steps:

 1. Evaluation of Application Firm

Recruitment generates sufficient numbers of application forms from prospective candidates. An application form contains different personal informations such as name, address, telephone number, date of birth, marital status, educational qualification, experience, skill, training, etc. It also includes certain or specified candidates and credentials. In the first step the validity of application form, certificates and credential is evaluated and those forms which are valid will be accepted.

 2. Preliminary Interview

It is a short interview and it is also known as initial screening interview. In this step an interview is taken to all candidates who have crossed the first step. The main purpose of this interview is to collect more informations about candidates  which are not mention in applications. It includes the enquiry about skills, knowledge, interest, experience, qualifications, expectation, etc of candidates.

 3. Written Test

 It is also known as employment test. In this stage organization administrator takes a written examination of those candidates who passed the preliminary interview. Candidates are provided a question containing different matters such as general knowledge, contemporary issues, subject matters, personality, etc and asked to solve the question within the specified period of time. Those candidates who secure minimum marks will be eligible for the next process.

 4. Final Interview

Final interview is also called selection interview. It is the face to face interaction between employee and employer. It is designed to predict the future performance of applicants based on the applicants oral responses. It collects the information from candidates which are not collected from written test. However, final interview may be structured interview, unstructured interview, semi-structured interview.

 5. Reference Check

It is also known as background investigation. It evaluates candidates background to determine whether information contained in the application are true or not. Further, it evaluates the social background or character of employees. In this step, managers of the organization contact with the references mentioned in the application forms through phone, email or personal contact.
In many organization it is done through police officer and if the candidates found involved in any anti-social activities than he/she will be rejected for next purpose.

 6. Medical Test

This is the sixth step or second last step of selection process. It is also known as the name of physical examination. The main purpose of this process is conducted to understand the physical ability or stamina and physical capabilities of the candidates. It is conducted from the approved physicians. Certain job require certain physical goodness such as clear vision, perfect hearing, clear tone, tolerance, etc to perform the job. The health of the candidates is important to the organization thus, a candidate who are physically misfits or who are victim of communicable disease will be rejected for the next selection process.

 7. Hiring Decision

 Hiring decision is the final step of selection process. A competent authority of the organization makes the selection decision and the list of all successful candidates are placed on the notice board or published in the daily newspapers. They are given appointment letter.
