The recruitment source refers to identifying or locating prospective candidates for organizational vacancies. Broadly there are two source of recruitment internal and external sources which are described as below:

 1. Internal Sources

Internal source is the process of locating prospective employees from within the organization. There are two major internal source of recruitment:

a. Present employees

It is the process of identifying and locating those candidates who re currently working in the same organization at different place and position. It follows transfer, promotion, job rotation, etc to recruit employees.

b. Past employees

It is rehiring process where organization locate those employees who had worked in the organization but nowadays they are away from the organization due to retirement, resignation, layoff, etc.

 2. External Sources

External sources refer to the process of locating those candidate who are not currently working in the same organization. It includes following sources:

a. Employment exchange agencies

Employment exchange agencies are those organizations which prepares detail list of prospective employees and supply employees according to the demand of the organizations. Such agencies are either established by government funding or private sector.

b. Educational institution

Educational institutions such as college, universities are the most reliable sources for recruiting young, energetic and fresh candidates. It provides large number of applicants with different qualification and qualities under the single place. The internship programme organized by college or universities will help to the organization to recruit employees.

c. Professional association

Professional association such as association of accountant, engineer, lawyer, doctor, etc prepare the detail list of eligible candidate for organization. It also serves external source of recruitment.

d. Trade unions

Trade unions are the association of workers organized to protect their rights and interest. They also prepare detail list of semi skilled and unskilled workers required to the organization. Sometimes, organization recruit employees according to the recommendation of trade union.

e. Casual applicants

Casual applicants are self existed applicants who submit their application with detail bio-data and visit directly to the human resource department to submit application or send their application through email or other means of communication. Organization sometimes recruit employees from such applicants.
